SWH Names Charde Regional Medical Director

ALBANY, NY (March 10, 2011) - Senior Whole Health of NY (SWH), a voluntary health care benefits plan for those over 65 eligible for Medicare and Medicaid, has named Dr. John P. Charde medical director for strategy and planning.

Charde, who has more 30 years of medical management and quality improvement experience, is also responsible for all quality management activities for SWH [Cambridge and Albany], including future National Committee for Quality Assurance accreditation and Star ratings, chronic care programs, improvement of outcomes, and assisting with the insurer's New York expansion plans.

Prior to joining SWH, Dr. Charde spent the past four years working in various capacities at Enhanced Care Initiatives, Inc., a Shelton, CT-based provider of community-based care management services for Medicare's most complexly ill and frail population. Most recently, he served as the company's senior medical director.

In 1982 he was the founding medical director for a staff model HMO in Poughkeepsie, New York, which subsequently became the Hudson Valley Region of Community Health Plan (CHP) of Latham, NY. He served as medical director for that region through 1994.

Between 1996-1998, Dr. Charde also was the associate medical director for quality management for Latham-based Kaiser's Northeast Division. During that time he was responsible for the development of clinical initiatives and improvement activities for their 570,000-member network throughout New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont.

"Dr. Charde brings invaluable clinical expertise and medical management knowledge to our company," said SWH Executive Director Margaret Wallingford, adding that he has also served as a consultant to CDPHP and the Vermont Department of Health. "He has been a leader developing and implementing clinical initiatives to improve care, and will play an instrumental role in helping our members remain living in the comfort of their own homes."

Dr. Charde, who earned his undergraduate degree at Georgetown University, attended the University of Pennsylvania Medical School and completed internship and residency at Strong Memorial Hospital, University of Rochester.
